The Best Movie You've Never Seen
Local Hero (1983) has lodged itself so far inside my brain, I had to at least make a quick video confessing my love for it. Obviously some have heard of it and seen and swear by it but i find it to be not well known and criminally underrated still! Check out the last Essay: ua-cam.com/video/26S5PQO5XvU/v-deo.html

How Sofia Coppola Frames Loneliness - Lost in Translation

It's one thing for Sofia Coppola to put Scarlett Johansson or Bill Murray in a frame by themselves to emphasize how alone they are it's another to show that same state of being while they're surrounded by other people. the retrofuturism really does fit into the themes of the setting: having achieved the ability to engineer human beings, society engineers them to match recycled notions of beauty and excellence, reinforcing an old social hierarchy in a new way. The engineered society is a society without the ability to dream of the future.

Anyone ever noticed how there is no video technology in the Gattaca Universe. Its a way to get rid of the plot hole of survalence ruining everything in the movie but I genuinely think Gattaca is based in a future where video technology was never invented lol you never see a TV or a camera at all

Gattaca is a wonderful classic science fiction. I understand it cost $20 million to produce but made only $12 million. How could a masterpiece be a loss? 25 years ago was an era when most people didn't go for things like science fiction and conspiracy theories. Today everyone mostly agrees that the real world is being redefined by science fiction and conspiracy theories for it's an obvious given in the 2020's.

@@autofocus4556 IDK i said something specific in the piece and your comment seemed to be a response to that but i suppose not. Glazer's interesting for sure but the thing with PTA for me is how prolific he's been and how much he's adapted himself, morphing his direction to match the worlds he's creating. Would've been impossible to predict the director of boogie nights would make punch drunk love and then follow it up with there will be blood. pretty insane imo!

I also found Phantom Thread to be a romantic comedy. I laughed at so much subtle comedy while the rest of the theater didn't seem to get it. The beauty of poisoning him and the burlesque of the protagonist balancing the heavy woman customer up the stairs seemed very compatible .

I don't think his movies are bad per se, but the whole 1:33:37 part with the Licorice Pizza movie is just.. weird. There seems to be this oddness with certain directors with making movies and in covering odd age differences with guys and girls, in any direction. It's just weird, and unnecessary honestly. Might just be somewhat biased though, have never really overly cared for his movies like some do.

PTA should have won best picture for There Will Be Blood. Its only weakness was the supporting cast. To surround the great Daniel Day Lewis with so many unknown and lesser actors was the only flaw. But otherwise a perfect film and the soundtrack was amazing. All of his films without Day Lewis have these big ensemble casts with lots of great famous actors in them. Would have been great to see DDL sparring with Philip Seymour Hoffman or JoaquinPhoenix

For all his seriousness, the thing that warms me to Anderson the most is his humour. He's one funny guy, as was his old man. One of the funniest clips of Anderson is him speaking to Chris Nolan at a Q and A for Phantom Thread. Nolan, it turns out, is a huge fan and he had his family sit and watch Phantom Thread with him at home. The delight on Anderson's face when Nolan tells him his family have taken to calling him 'Mr Woodcock' when he gets dictorial at home! 'Son, will you please clean your room before I lose my patience?!'. 'Yes Mr Woodcock, right away Mr Woodcock!'. That's pretty funny!

He's great on the Marc Moran podcast (the story of his dad and Tim Conway dressing up as Mummies one haloween is a classic!) , but my favorite is his conversation with British comic Adam Buxton. Adam has Anderson in stitches at times. Anderson is one of the least pretentious artists that has ever lived! @@EricRossReel
